Or, leadership for the Follies. Same thing, really.

We had our annual meeting earlier this evening, where we elect a new production team and their proposed show for next year. After a super-close vote, I’m glad to publicly announce that Jocelyn Geddie will be Directing The Drowsy Chaperone next year for the UC Follies!

This, of course, all depends on the rights, so the show is totally subject to change. Regardless, it’s time to say hello to our new Director.

Now, you’re obviously asking yourself: “But Aidan? Does this mean you’re leaving us?”

All I can say for now is: probably (hopefully?) not.

I just want to say: booking 60 hours of rehearsal space, not using it, yet leaving it booked = not cool. Not only is that wasteful, but students in the drama program could have used that space the entire time. We have 70 students vying for 3 spaces, and we NEED the space to get our course work done, so in the future unbook the space, PLEASE.

    Hey Joshua,

While I’m kind of out of town and not really working with the Follies anymore (because of the distance), I just wanted to let you know that I caught your comment and that the people in charge back in Toronto will be looking into it.

I’m sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused, and I’m sure the Follies crew is, too.

Thanks for your response. I didn’t mean to be too nasty or confrontational, just making
doubly sure that people understand the impact of their actions on others (I’m sure the
UCDP administration did the same). I just want whoever is responsible to understand the
impact on other students, and not to merely shrug it off as minor. I mean, it’s perfectly
reasonable to book UCDP rehearsal space and use it, but if someone in our program did the
same thing (booking space and leaving it empty), they’d get a similar response.

Incidentally, I was able to snag up the Thursday rehearsal time the UC follies previously
had before anyone else found out about the change, so I am kind of benefiting from this
in a funny way (up until yesterday, I had no idea how I’d get rehearsal space to prepare
my end of the term project).

    Thanks for your diplomatic response!

    Dear Joshua,

I’m currently running the UC Follies and wanted to sincerely apologize for the problems! We had actually emailed the UCDP earlier this term to let them know that we would not be using the space at all this term so that they could release the space to students, but they apparently did not receive our email. Nonetheless, I understand your frustrations, as the space available at UofT for rehearsals by no means matches the extraordinarily high demand, and I have been in situations like yours before. I assure you that we made the effort to release the space, and I am sorry to hear that there has been a mix-up.

I’m glad that you were able to get in there at least a little bit, and hopefully we can assist you in other ways in relinquishing some of our proposed rehearsal time for next term so that you can be sure to get in there.

If you’d like to get in touch with us, please email us at ucfollies.assassins@gmail.com.

    Best,
    Jocelyn
